Though he set out to make a straightforward documentary in the style of Baraka or Winged Migration, he instead stumbled headfirst into the grimy underworld of ‘shark-finning’ – where poachers capture sharks and cut their fins off, sometimes while they’re still alive, and then throw the rest of the animal back into the ocean.
